Today we ran on the now very familiar Orfu map from yet a new location.
(On the NW side of the map, on road between yesterdays Tx 3 and Tx 5) I
had a plan.. I would head south (maintaining altitude) and collect
anything there, then play it by ear. Te plan went well, there was
something that way, in actual fact there were 3 roughly ahead of me and
2 kinda back behind. I pushed on for another few cycles taking other
bearings for other controls as I went. I found Tx 4 after about 20
minutes, I Tx 5 bearings weren't that flash so I headed roughly that
way and kept finding that it was just a little further, (was bending
around the hill too) I quickly decided that it was going to be a fair
way (so kept pushing on) This one also took a bout 20 minutes. I gained
some confidence on exiting when I saw Bryan who too was finding this as
his 2nd Control. I then had two options head via the finish to Tx 1 and
Tx 2, or head well North in search to Tx 3. I decided that my
inconclusive bearings for Tx 1 and 2 were a little more conclusive than
my inconclusive bearings for Tx 3. The plan paid off as en-route for my
anticipitated Tx 1 location (and approx. 1km from it)) found it just
after it's cycle finished. I then headed North collecting Tx 2 just
after its second cycle. From here I had a couple of good bearing's for
my last control Tx 3 and headed yet further north. I was surprised at
its proximity, and found it just 2 cycles later. All in all a good
course, I ran to the finish passing Vadim en-route (he was still
heading out). Lunch was quick followed by good-byes. We left on the
4.15pm train traveled to Budapest arriving at about 6pm. We met up with
Jaci, a very nice Lady who offers private accommodation at her house to
travelers. She has a couple of rooms behind her house available. 5 of
us were squashed into a small room, but the low price, fantastic
breakfasts and tour guide / information service made it extremely
attractive. (If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Budapest I can
highly recommend her units. Jaci met us at the train station led the
way to her house. She gave us the lowdown on transport tickets and the
network en-route. Once settled in she showed us the map and gave us
suggestions about what to visit. We excused ourselves at 9.30pm so as
to find a restaurant and get some tea (she even suggested where a good
one was).
