Day 4 - Awthul - Orfu (Kisto)
Today was again an early start, this time it was a 2M ARDF event held
close to home it was a 1:15,000 scale map that adjoins the 1:10,000 map
we had used the first day. The early start time was to allow for the
long event on difficult terrain with many reflections. I jogged / ran
today and my ankle held up well. I visited the transmitters in a very
bad order that added several kilometres to my course. Dany has offered
to scan our maps soo you will soon be able to see what I am talking
about. I took the transmitters in the order 4,3, (back through start)
1,2 (through finish) 5 (then back to finish) The optimum order would be
4,3,5,1,2 or possibly 5,4,3,1,2 although this would require running
back past the start after 5's transmittion began 4minutes into the
event. Gyuri finished first with only 4 transmitters (allowable as he
runs in the 40 age class), Vadim was 2nd 5min's behind, bruce another
5min's then I finished 5min's after that in 2 hours. Harley, Karla and
Bob also found 5transmitters, Marvin and Bryan who both had problems
only finished with 3 and 2 tx's respectively. Lunch was Mashed patatoes
and UFO's (Unknown Fried Objects) they were really some sort of
Meatball. Gyuri disapeared 45 minutes ago, he will be back in 30
minutes to take us to the 80M fox-or-ing event. We will be trainning
everymorning rain hail or shine, Afternoon events will alternate fox-or
with regular orienteering, however they will be limited to dry weather only.
