[WVARC] Ten Meters

But of course! WVARC was the "original" 10 meter contest. The idea was to
spur activity on the previously dead band. This contest was a tradition at
least 10 years before the ARRL event and several years before the 10-10
numbers came into being.

The reason I met most of you is because I was struggling with my newly build
SB-401 transmitter on 10 meters. Even though Heathkit had supposedly fixed
my construction problems the transmitter wasn't working right. I got on the
air assistance from a number of club members and even a few came over for a
look. I am pretty sure that Matt came over to help but I can't remember the
others.

A few weeks later I went down to Henry and traded in the SB-401 my Drake 2C
and bought a Swan 350c, 3 ele TH3Jr and a 40 foot push up. About 7 or 8
club members helped me erect the antenna one weekend and I was off and
running.

I guess without the 10 meter contest I would have eventually found the
WVARC, but more likely is that I would assume you were a bunch of goofballs
doing stupid things like creating a contest for a dead band and working
bogus stations like ZK2AU.

Joe

Hello,

Does anybody remember that the WVARC "invented" the ten-meter contest?

John
