Chirp - If you were running off an aux battery rather than one charged by
the alternator then the chirp is most likely caused by low battery voltage -
been there done that. The so called 12 volt rigs really are 13.8 volt rigs
that stop working correctly if the voltage drops below 13 or 12.5 volts. I
use a W4RRY dc to dc converter on my FT-100. No hash - nice and quiet and
the voltage stays at 13.8 volts as the battery discharges to 11 volts.
