[Cwo] 2014 CWO Awards

Alan,

I spent a lot of time (almost 3 weeks) with Ray Novak (N9JA) who is
ultimately responsible for ICOM's support of CW Open. We talked about an
expanded award program and the rationale behind it while we were both in
Mozambique (C82DX).

I don't feel that asking ICOM to go from one set of awards to triple that
number would be appropriate without also offering to split the cost. We
have the money. I would be okay with Isiah continuing to order and ship
the awards, as you point out, but that's going to triple her workload. The
least we can do is cover half the overall costs.

As for the issue concerning trophies versus plaques - John (K6MM's) points
are valid when everything else is equal. We came up with the trophy idea
to create a point of differentiation. And, it works! Just ask those who
received them. I recognize that it takes more time and cost to ship the
trophies than it does the plaques, but I'm okay with that. They're
special.

Replacing the trophies with plaques was never up for discussion - only
increasing the current award program to include a regional approach. There
were enough 'yes' votes to move ahead with this. I have already emailed
Ray Novak about the proposed change (yesterday) and await his response.
