[ARDF] GPS considerations

John,As it was explained to me by a more experienced ARDF competitor, GPS built into the receiver is being used for navigation purposes in the following way. As the participant runs tangent to a transmitter the angle to that transmitter is changing at a rate relative to the distance from the transmitter. Software in some receivers is said to be calculating this for the participant and displaying distance to the transmitter based on the rate of change of this angle as well as signal strength. Personally I must judge how rapidly the angle changes in order to estimate the distance since I don't have a receiver with built-in GPS that knows exactly where I am.Don, W9EBK

Charles' pdf does not show up in the list. The reference for his White
Paper links to Apple Books & couldn't find a way to read it.

I disagree that IARU ARDF rules permit GPS to be used for navigation
purposes. The IARU Working Party discussed various issues regarding
technology & cheating at the Region 1 champs in Rogla 2 months ago.
