San Diego Airport (SAN) is definitely closest, about 60 miles by road from the competition area.? It is served by 22 airlines including Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, United and Virgin.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is about 135 miles away.? I've never found it to be cheaper, but "your mileage may vary."

I have a Web page with info on transportation and lodging almost ready to go, but I'm waiting for some info from Marvin.? If I don't get it soon, I'll just post what I have.

Joe

Is there any recommendation for what airports might be good for the Mt. Laguna events??I'm assuming San Diego is the closest, but I have heard it might be cheaper to fly into Orange County John Wayne or one of the other LA airports. Is there any local knowledge about this?

?Beginning with the 2012 ARDF World Championships in Serbia, two new events are being added:? sprints and foxoring.? The sprint competition is a short dual-course five-fox 80-meter ARDF run that's intended to be a demonstration for the public.? Foxoring is a combination of classic orienteering and direction-finding in which the competitors use orienteering skills to navigate to specific locations on the competition map where they will be able to receive and locate an 80 meter fox transmitter signal.

Plans are under way to include these two new events at the 2012 USA ARDF Championships in southern California for demonstration and training.? ARDF Team USA members for the main ARDF events in Serbia will be chosen from the regular 2m and 80m competitions only.? Results of the sprint and foxoring sessions at Mt. Laguna will not influence the 2012 team selection for main WC ARDF events.? However, the newest international rules permit nations to have additional team members just for the WC sprint and foxoring events, so it is possible for USA to add members to its team to compete in those events only.

Detailed information about ARDF sprints and foxoring is now on this page of my "Homing In Web site:
