[WVARC] Ten Meters

I remember in the early and mid-60s hearing all this talk about the
amazing things one could do on 10 meters with low power
and a modest antenna during the 1957-58 sunspot cycle
peak. But from my swl days starting in '63 through my first
couple of years as a ham 10 just seemed like a mostly dead
band. People were predicting the band would really come alive
for the first time in many years starting in the autumn of '67,
so I thought it would be kind of neat for a whole bunch of
hams to get on the band just before the fireworks were to
start. That's why August was chosen. That and because
a contest then would be more of a challenge than it would
be in October. (Well, maybe September would have been a
better choice!) But I remember having a good time.

I think we sponsored the contest twice, in '67 and '68.
