<div><div><div dir="auto">It does look like Bunch stem necrosis but BSN is not used during this time of the year to describe death of fruit or rachis in the cluster. BSN is an unknown problem in grapevines and happens during the beginning of veraison and it is unknown what the exact cause is. The belief is that it’s from possible poor previous years nutrition or bad pruning practices but like I said, that happens right before or during veraison, not in Spring. Only reason you would have death of cluster during this time of the year is due to early onset of botrytis. With the wet weather like we had this would be my assumption.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Did you have any leaves that look like this? This would be one sign but like I tell everyone that I give advice about vines to is that you really need to be a detective. Problems in the vineyard can look like many different things/problems since many issues looks very similar. I would have to take everything into account such as nutrient program, vine health, current growing conditions and anything else I can think of to make an informed guess and thats what any viticulturist should tell you. Does anyone know why the rachis (I believe that’s what it’s called) would be dying in near the end of the cluster of our Chardonnay? Bloom has just started and it’s happening to about 20% of the clusters. Thanks for your help.
