Hi, everyone:
With this last atmospheric river there is even more storm damage than
there was before - and the NRCS can help with technical assistance (at
no charge) and grants are available as well. See the list of County
contacts below if you want to give them a call.
If you missed the meeting we had with the NRCS a couple of weeks ago you
can still watch on YouTube the presentation given by Rich Casale on
*Assessing & Managing Storm Impacts to Your Property. See the video
**here <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPhcHYbuLgI>**on YouTube* It
includes:
- Hillside Erosion & Slope Control Practices, including using straw
mulch at a max of 2", avoid concentrated flows, plastic sheeting is most
often not the answer but if you use it use clear plastic (black will
kill everything growing in the soil) and see the presentation for proper
use.
- Private Road Damages & Drainage, including culverts,
- Creek Banks & Debris Jams
And attached here is the presentation given by Drew Mather, the District
Conservationist out of the Capitola office. *This presentation addresses
Technical & Financial Assistance for Vineyard conservation efforts* and
talks about what the NRCS is and does. Technical advice is at no charge
- just make an appointment with the local office - and grants are
available to implement projects. Many of our members have benefited from
NRCS advice and funding programs such as EQIP. In addition to assistance
on storm damages, practices they support include:
- Soil Carbon Amendment Conservation
- Cover Crop
- Irrigation Conservation
- Hedgerows
- Rainwater Capture
- Wildlife Structures
I hope this is helpful. And NRCS contacts are listed below.
Thanks much,
Mary Lindsay
