*
The next VASCM meeting is an in-person tailgate with Fritz Westover of
Westover Vineyard Advising/Virtual Viticulture Academy on a wealth of
useful early season practices *(see more below).
*
*
*
*
*This Friday, May 21
10:00am - noon
*
*Location:  Muns Vineyard *(see address & directions below)

**
This will be our first in-person meeting in over a year! This is not on
Zoom! And we are fortunate to have as our speaker Fritz Westover of
Westover Vineyard Advising/Virtual Viticulture Academy who is in the
area for the Regenerative Viticulture program at Paicines Ranch next
weekend (see the email notice sent about that last week). Fritz was
previously program director for the Vineyard Team on the Central Coast
and now is a vineyard consultant out of Texas, with a national reach
through his web-based programs. We were able to persuade him to make a
stop in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We had a Zoom program with Fritz last
year on early season practices and this time he will talk about some
additional topics.  Plus, this is an opportunity to interface with him
in person, in the vineyard - and for us to see each other.

*Fritz's talk will include:*
*- a pruning critique (post-pruning)**
*
*- shoot thinning practices*
*- leaf vs. petiole analysis and establishing a fertilization/nutrition
program **
*
*- spray program considerations*
and time for Q&A.

/Note:  This meeting will be held under the CDC's latest eased
mask-wearing guidance:  if you are fully vaccinated you no longer need
to wear a mask outdoors. However, please wear a mask if you feel more
comfortable doing so. /

See the address and directions to Muns Vineyard below, as well as more
information on Fritz Westover.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday morning.

*Directions to Muns Vineyard: *
25600 Loma Prieta Ave., Los Gatos (on the Loma Prieta ridge top above
Summit Road)

*IMPORTANT:* There is a gate when you arrive at the top of Loma Prieta.
If it is closed, *the gate code is **2453*. *And, if you use GPS, be
sure to turn off of Summit Rd. onto Loma Prieta Ave. across from the
Burrell School Winery - _do not follow GPS onto Highland Way_* or you
will get lost. Use the directions below for reference. If you get lost,
call Mary at 408-234-2079.

***From Santa Cruz: **

*1. Exit Summit Road off of Hwy. 17. Continue straight off of the exit
(do not turn to go over the overpass).

2. Follow Summit Rd. 3.5 miles. Just past Burrell School, make a left on
Loma Prieta Ave. and then follow the directions from #4 below.  If you
get to the Summit Store you have gone too far.

/Or, you can come up the Old San Jose-Soquel Rd. out of Soquel. At the
very top make a _left_ onto Summit Rd. Just past the Summit Store make
the first right onto Loma Prieta Ave. and follow the directions from #4
below./
**//**
**/
/**

*From Los Gatos:*

1.  Take Hwy. 17 through Los Gatos and up the hill towards Santa Cruz.
It is about 7 miles from the Los Gatos-Saratoga Rd. exit to Summit Road.
Exit Summit Rd.

2. Make a right off the exit, then another right and come across the
bridge over Hwy. 17. Then left onto Summit Rd. *Note: Do not make a left
immediately off of the exit. Make sure you come across the bridge first,
and then make the left.**
**
*3. From the Hwy. 17 overpass it is 3.5 miles along Summit Rd. and then
make a left on Loma Prieta Ave. (just past Burrell School winery). If
you get to the Summit Store you have gone too far! But you can stop here
to pick up picnic supplies.

4. *Drive on Loma Prieta Avenue for 3 miles*. You will pass through pear
orchards and past the house at the s-curve the road will narrow. As you
drive up the hill you will have a fabulous view looking out over
Monterey Bay. The road is narrow and skirts the side of the cliff.
Please drive carefully.

5. At 3 miles you will come to a Y in the road with a gate and an
address post showing 25200, 25300 and 25600. *Take the left-hand leg of
the Y* which is our private road. You will need to enter a code on the
panel to the left. *The gate code is ******2453***. Go through the gate
and continue up the hill. We will have signs posted.

/Bear left here, go through the gate and go up the hill./
/*Note: You do not want to take the right-hand leg of the Y here*//.
If you do you will////continue on Loma Prieta Avenue, it flattens out
and turns to dirt, so if that happens, turn around //right away, while
you still can. /

6.  Once you are through the gate,  a couple hundred yards past the gate
you will see a 2nd Y.
*T**urn right here**, towards 25600*, off of the paved road and onto the
dirt road. You will drive through our neighbor's vineyard, Robin and
Mark Porter's Lago Lomita Vineyard. Drive another couple hundred yards,
through a second gate - it will open automatically as you pull up - and
on up the road to our gate (the third gate) and Muns Vineyard.

7. Please park right inside this third gate.

*Please note: *
