The growing incidents of wildfires is making it difficult for vintners 
and grapegrowers to secure affordable commercial insurance coverage - as 
many of us have already found out. Last Wednesday the Wine Institute and 
Family Winemakers sponsored a webinar with Insurance Commissioner 
Ricardo Lara - and you can watch the recording here:

And since this webinar there is an update: *on Friday Governor Newsom 
signed SB-11*, which makes the FAIR insurance plan now available to 
agriculture (which it had not previously been). "Farmers, ranchers and 
vintners will be able to purchase necessary basic property insurance 
from the FAIR Plan, including for the family home, the barns.. and the 
buildings..." and other structures. It apparently does not include 
agricultural commodities, livestock or equipment. You can read more

It will take a few weeks for this to be implemented.

If your insurance has not been renewed and you want to 'do something' 
you can contribute to the data the Dept. of Insurance is collecting to 
help effect legislation by filing a Complaint of non-renewal on the 
California Dept. of Insurance website at insurance.ca.gov 
<http://www.insurance.ca.gov> .  Data collected through the website will 
be available later this summer and will help to inform the legislature, 
with the intent of creating solutions to solve the problem. To File a 
Complaint, go to the 'File A Complaint' page here

register as a guest to fill out the form.

Things seem to be moving along. And in the mean time I think we all are 
holding our collective breath to get through this wildfire season 
without incident.
