Chris Bowland manages over 400 acres of Estate and a number of grower 
vineyards in the Russian River and Bennett Valley AVA's for Williams 
Selyem.  We are fortunate to have him come and talk to us on 
pre-veraison issues and practices, including bunch closure, pre-veraison 
spray programs (focus on organic), as well as preparing for heat events.

*About Chris Bowland:*Chris and his wife Tanya are the proprietors of 
Bowland Vineyard Management, managing the Estate vineyards for Williams 
Selyem as well as many of the winery’s grower’s vineyards. Chris planted 
the first vineyard blocks at Willoiams Selyem’s Litton Estate in 2002 
and has been instrumental in continuing the winery’s brand and 
reputation for Pinot Noir excellence. Bowland Vineyard Management 
oversees about 400 acres in the Russian River and Bennett Valley AVAs. 
Chris’ strength in the vineyards comes from an extensive background in 
both farming and agriculture, and an innate ability to draw from both 
philosophies as vineyard situations demand. Chris is a legendary 
fisherman in his limited free time, enjoying casts off the local

mask-wearing guidance: if you are fully vaccinated you no longer need to 
wear a mask outdoors. However, please wear a mask if you feel more 
comfortable doing so. /

*Directions to Ascona Vineyard, 18516 Skyline Blvd., Los Gatos *
 From Hwy. 17:
- take the Bear Creek Rd. exit at Lexington Reservoir
- come off the exit ramp, pass Bear Creek Rd. and make a left onto Black 
Rd.
- follow Black Rd. all the way to the top where it dead ends at Skyline; 
make a left on Skyline
- Ascona Vineyard will be almost immediately on the left in about .1 mile
