Hello, everyone:
I am forwarding a message from Rich Casale of the NRCS regarding USDA /
NRCS programs to recover agricultural losses due to wildfire. Many of
you know Rich. He has spoken multiple times at VASCM meetings. He is a
resource conservation expert and in recent years has served as a
consultant to the NRCS on post-wildfire restoration.
You will find a quick list of the disaster relief programs attached
here. And details on the USDA website here
<https://www.fsa.usda.gov/programs-and-services/disaster-assistance-program/index>.
Also note: the NRCS and the Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz
County are offering free site visits/assessments to any properties
affected by the SCZ Lightning Complex fire and especially those with
vegetation and soil/slope damages where there is a concern about
increased hazard for erosion and sliding this winter. For those
interested in an NRCS site visit they can contact the Capitola NRCS
office (831-475-1967), Lisa Lurie at llurie at rcdsantacruz.org, or
Whitney Haraguchi, NRCS, Capitola at whitney.haraguchi at usda.gov
For additional information and helpful post fire guides growers can
check out the NRCS CA website at www.ca.nrcs.usda.gov
<http://www.ca.nrcs.usda.gov> and the RCD website at:
www.rcdsantacruz.org <http://www.rcdsantacruz.org>.
Thanks much,
Mary Lindsay

Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP)
NAP provides financial assistance to producers of noninsurable crops
when low yields, loss of inventory, or prevented planting occur due to
natural disasters.
Hi Mary
Hope you are well during this very unusual time. I just wanted to make
sure that growers are aware of USDA- NRCS and USDA-Farm Services Agency
post fire programs to help cover any losses to crops (smoke, heat or
fire damage) or vineyard conservation practices and infrastructure. I
have attached a fact sheet outlining the various different programs and
how to apply. Please pass on as you see fit.
In addition, NRCS and the Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz
County are offering free site visits/assessments to any properties
affected by the SCZ Lightning Complex fire and especially those with
vegetation and soil/slope damages where there is a concern about
increased hazard for erosion and sliding this winter. For those
interested in an NRCS site visit they can contact the Capitola NRCS
office (831-475-1967). For additional information and helpful post fire
guides growers can check out the NRCS CA website at www.ca.nrcs.usda.gov
<http://www.ca.nrcs.usda.gov> and the RCD website at:
www.rcdsantacruz.org <http://www.rcdsantacruz.org>.
Note: NRCS hired me back as a contractor full time to assist NRCS
offices and partners (like they have every year since I retired in
early 2017) in the central coast and bay area/north coast counties
affected by wildfire. If anyone wants my direct assistance then they need
to make a formal request with the Capitola NRCS office. I expect that I
will be spread pretty thin over such a large area but anticipate helping
out at least until the end of the year.
Take care and stay healthy,
Rich Casale, CPESC #3
