CAWG's website following last week's webinar on the topic. There is a 
lot of valuable information available to non-members, even though

Thank you to those who attended CAWG’s Wildfire and Smoke Exposure 
Events webinar on Aug 26. We had an extraordinary number of people tune 
in, which says a lot about the uncertainty and risks many in our 
industry are experiencing due to recent wildfires and smoke exposure 
events. We hope the expert presenters featured in our webinar helped 
clarify some of the many questions you may have about wildfires and 
smoke exposure.

West Coast Smoke Exposure Task Force

CAWG is currently working closely with industry members in California, 
Oregon and Washington, through the West Coast Smoke Exposure Task Force, 
to develop various resources to assist industry operators. The task 
force has created protocols for growers to collect grape samples for lab 
analysis and grower and winery guidelines to conduct a micro-fermentation.

and will be distributed to other industry associations.
We are also preparing for the task force a paper, which will be widely 
distributed, to assist growers’ understanding of how to use crop 
insurance to protect against smoke exposure risks and successfully 
navigate the claims process. Every year growers face a critically 
important decision about whether to purchase crop insurance and how much 
coverage to obtain. We believe this document will prove useful to 
growers in California, Oregon and Washington. We anticipate that 
document will be available by mid-September.
Finally, we expect the task force will soon release a ‘road map’ that 
will serve as a guide to encourage timely and effective communication 
between growers and wineries to address shared concerns related to smoke 
exposure. We are working on that document and it should be released soon.

research on smoke exposure and its effects on grape and wine quality,
