Hello, everyone:

This is a heartbreaking time for all of us in the Santa Cruz Mountains. 
Some of our growers and winemakers have had to evacuate. Some have lost 
their wineries, and this year's crop. Our hearts go out to everyone 
affected.

We all are probably wondering about the effects of the pervasive 
wildfire smoke on our ripening fruit.  CAWG (California Assn. of 
Winegrape Growers) is holding *a webinar this Wednesday, 9:30am on 
**Wildfire Smoke Exposure:* this is an in-depth look at what smoke 
exposure may mean for your crop and how to manage the risks you may 
encounter. There is no charge, and it is available to everyone in the 
industry (you do not need to be a CAWG member).  See the Agenda and

unpredictability, 2020 has thrown California grape growers yet another 
curveball. A surprise late-summer storm system spawned a series of 
wildfires in many areas of the state that present a new set of risks and 
challenges.
Please join the California Association of Winegrape Growers on 
Wednesday, August 26th from 9:30 – 11:00 am for an in-depth look at what 
smoke exposure may mean for your crop and how to manage the risks you 
may encounter.

AGENDA

9:30 am - Smoke Exposure and Risks to Winegrape Quality

Alisa Jacobson, Gott Wines and Anita Oberholster, Ph.D., UC Davis will 
discuss how smoke exposure can impact grape and wine quality, ways to 
manage risk, and the steps growers can take to understand how smoke has 
affected their crop.

10:00 am - Winegrape Contracts - Smoke Exposure

Dale Stern of Downey Brand, LLP will review and discuss how smoke 
exposure issues are dealt with under common provisions of winegrape 
contracts.

10:20 am - Crop Insurance Claims

Greg Merrill and Kristine Fox of Pan American Insurance Services will 
review coverable crop insurance losses relative to smoke exposure, so 
you can understand your options for smoke damaged fruit.

10:45 am - Worker Safety + Air Quality - Mask Requirements

Michael Miiller, CAWG’s Director of Government Relations and Marco 
Figueroa, Pan American Insurance Services will provide a review of 
growers’ regulatory obligations and general safety measures to protect 
employees during wildfire smoke exposure events. Additionally, an update 
will be given on efforts to increase the availability of N95 masks.
