*The prolonged rains have put a lot of pressure on our vineyards for 
mildew and other fungal diseases, including phomopsis and botrytis. This 
next VASCM meeting will address mildew control, including spray options, 
scheduling, rotation, resistance issues - and mitigating other fungal 
diseases as well. Larry Bettiga is UCCE Viticulture Farm Advisor for 
Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties and author, /Grape Pest 
Management. /

The meeting will be held at Storrs Winery & Vineyards in Pleasant Valley 
(address and directions below). Starting at 2:00 Pam & Steve Storrs will 
give us a tour of their organic vineyard (planted to Chardonnay and 
Pinot Noir) and talk about their sustainable practices both in the 
vineyard and in restoring and protecting the riparian corridor the 
vineyard is located in. This includes erosion control and soil 
restoration (aided by the flock of baby doll sheep that graze the 
vineyard in the winter), working with the Wild Farm Alliance to protect 
wildlife, and the 'zero energy'' solar-powered winery and recently 
opened tasting room with 2-foot thick walls made of soy-based foam 
insulation.

We suggest you bring your own chair.  As usual, please bring a bottle of 
wine to share. This is an opportunity to compare notes on the impact of 
this year's weather so far on our vineyards.
