VASCM: In Memoriam: Dr. Douglas Goublar

I am very sad to share that one of our leading experts and icons in viticulture research and problem solving has moved on to the big vineyards beyond.

Dr. Douglas Goublar passed away Friday, July 20, 2018.

Quoted from the announcement:

"It was with great sadness that we learned last Friday of Dr. Doug Gubler passing from a long battle with heart disease.  
Doug touched the lives of many in and outside our industry over the course of his long successful career and he did so with great humility and respect for everyone around him.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to his family for their loss. It is with great appreciation that we celebrate his expertise and commitment to pioneer new ideas that improve the way our crops are produced and to teach his understanding to all who would listen. It was a pleasure to know and work with him. Rest in peace.”



I had the privilege to work with Dr. Goublar from 1991-1992 in his research trials on powdery mildew on wine grapes in the Central Coast.  It is absolutely true that he acted with professional integrity and humility with all he met and all members of the wine industry owe him a great debt.

Thank you Dr. Goublar for your work and thank you to his family for sharing him with us.
