**UC **Davis Viticulture & Enology 'On the Road' Program
in the Santa Cruz Mountains


*Speakers from UC Davis will be coming to theSanta Cruz Mountains with a 
program of viticulture topics pertinent especially to our region. We are 
fortunate to be able to benefit from their expertise right here at home.

We are also very fortunate to hear from Doug Gubler, who is an expert in 
vine trunk disease and who recently retired from UC Davis, but who is 
coming to talk to us.

*This program is for all growers in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and all 
winemakers to learn more about some of the issues in our vineyards. The 
topics on diseases will include prevention and mitigation. The effect of 
disease and viticulture practices on phenolics will be discussed.*


_This will be a VASCM meeting in the 1st quarter of 2018_

The speakersand topics will include:

  * Doug Gubler:  vine trunk diseases, Part I

  * Dario Cantu: --  vine trunk diseases, Part II (Cantu is head of the
    Cantu Lab at UCD researching powdery mildew, vine trunk diseases, etc.)

  * Larry Bettiga:  mealy bug.Mealy bugs are present in our region from
    Watsonville to Woodside.

  * Anita Oberholster:  Red Blotch - effect on grapes and phenolics. Red
    Blotch is here, too.

  * Kaan Kurtural: leaf removal, trellising and viticultural impacts on
    flavor

*Date & Time:*  The program will be all morning on Feb. 20 and include 
lunch.

*Location:* UCSC (details to come)

*Cost & Registration: * $30 (registration information will be provided 
shortly)

DPR credits have been applied for.
