The next VASCM meeting: A Tailgate in the Vineyard at Beauregard
Vineyards -- Floor and Canopy Management
Thursday, May 18
4:00pm
Beauregard Vineyards' Coast Grade Vineyard
*Floor and canopy management are going to require -- and already are --
a lot of attention with so much moisture in the ground after a record
season of rainfall - 85-100" in our vineyards this winter. Cover crop
and weeds are growing rampant. Ryan Beauregard will share with us the
floor management and cover crop practices at the Beauregard's Coast
Grade Vineyard, a vineyard that is used to seeing winters with a lot of
rain (although 100" is phenomenal). We'll talk about the options for
addressing the effects of abundant rainfall.
This will be a tailgate in the vineyard, then we will proceed to the
Beauregard Winery's "Lost Weekend" tasting room up the road. As usual,
please bring a bottle of wine to share.
A little about Beauregard Vineyards & Winery: Four generations of
Beauregards have farmed this vineyard, originally planted in the 1880s.
Ryan's great grandfather Amos bought the land in 1945; then his son Bud
(founder of Shopper's Corner) farmed the vineyard, as did his son Jim,
Ryan's dad, who still maintains 68 acres of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay,
Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon in several family-owned vineyards in
the area. Ryan is the current winemaker. In 2008 the Beauregard family
purchased the building that is their tasting room, which for 25 years
previously had been Randall Grahm's winery and tasting room. The
building was originally built in the late 1800s, and in the 1950s became
the notorious 'Lost Weekend' bar, agathering place for the community and
for travellers up the coast.
Thank you to Ryan Beauregard for hosting. Directions below.
See you at the meeting.
