Hello, everyone:
The CDFA has just introduced a new California Healthy Soils program, and
is offering grants to growers to implement sustainable practices
promoting soil health including compost, no-till, cover crops. It covers
the cost of soil sampling and testing, among other things. The deadline
for grant applications is Sept. 19. See the Healthy Soils website here

Whether you are interested to apply for a grant this site provides some
good information, including how to take a soil sample to determine
organic content, texture, pH, mineral content, etc.
Application assistance workshops will be held locally by the RCD:

*NEW HEALTHY SOILS PROGRAM*
*Seeking Farmers to Apply for Funding*
California’s much anticipated Healthy Soils Program officially launched
this week with the release of the first Request for Grant Applications
(RGA) by the California Department of Agriculture (CDFA). The deadline
for applications is 5pm on September 19th.
The first of its kind in the country, this program will provide grants
to farmers and ranchers for implementing on-farm practices that reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and/or store carbon in soil, trees, and shrubs.
Eligible practices will include the addition of mulch and compost, cover
cropping, reduced tillage, and the planting of windbreaks, hedgerows,
riparian plantings, filter strips, silvopasture, and more. For more
