*
The next VASCM meeting is a tailgate tomorow, Thursday, May 5 at Thomas
Fogarty's Gist Ranch vineyard off of Skyline Rd. Vineyard manager
Marshal White will give us a tour of Fogarty's 'southern estate'
vineyard, a 100-acre parcel with 14 acres of vineyard located 17 miles
south of the winery. He will talk about their soil management program,
including spading, composting and cover crop. **

**Thursday, May 5**
**3:00-5:00**
**Thomas Fogarty's Gist Ranch - see directions below*

/Please note: this is a more informal vineyard 'tailgate', not a regular
meeting. If you bring some wine to share, please also bring your own
wineglass.//

More about Gist Ranch: The property features 14 acres of
organically-grown grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec,
Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Nebbiolo. Gist Ranch
sits atop a ridge at 2300 feet above sea level and experiences a
relatively cool climate influenced by the Pacific Ocean about 14 miles
to the west. Planted in 1999, this vineyard is responsible for a number
of Fogarty’s single-site bottlings.

*Then, look forward to the next meeting coming up later in May *(date
and location TBD):

- *Weed Management with John Roncoroni, **UCCE Weed Science Farm
Advisor* who specializes in vineyard weed management and speaks to
growers throughout Northern California. John will talk about issues
including: identifying weeds vs. cover crop; the status of organic
herbicides; weed management options. This should be a nice follow-up to
the tailgate at Gist Ranch.

This topic is coincidental but apropos to the recent news about the
levels of glyphosate (Round-Up) found in all of 10 red wines tested from
Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino. You can read about it more here
<http://abc7news.com/health/i-team-weed-killer-could-be-lurking-in-some-ca-wines/1314832/>on
the ABC News website.

More information on this meeting will be forthcoming.

In case you are wondering, you have not missed any notices about VASCM
meetings so far this year. These are the first meetings of 2016,
although we hope to bring you several more in the next few months.

See you next week at Gist Ranch.
