Learn best practices about topics including:
- soil management
- vineyard water management
- pest control
- ecosystem management
- energy efficiency
- winery water conservation
- solid waste management
- material handling
- neighborhood & communityrelations
- air quality (including vineyard dust mitigation, spray controls)
This workshop is based on the sustainable winegrowing self-assessment
workbook from the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA).
Its goals are to encourage best practices in environmental stewardship,
conservation of natural resources and socially equitable business
practices. Assess your practices and in the process learn how you might
improve. The book is full of valuable information! You will receive the
workbook for free. /RSVP please - see below./

workbook, please bring it with you.First-time participants will receive
the workbook (no charge).
/During the break we will tour the CCOF Certified organic vineyard at
Silver Mountain and learn about sustainable vineyard & winery practices
there, including energy conservation with a 46kw solar array, water
harvesting using the 6000sf Triple Green roof (that also shades the
crush pad), composting, and more./
If you have an interest in being *SWP Certified Sustainable,* the
workbook is where you start. Certification is based on a cycle of
continuous improvement (for more information see the CSWA websitehere
<http://www.sustainablewinegrowing.org/certified-sustainable-winegrowing.php>.)
Currently, Cooper-Garrod is the only vineyard and winery in the Santa
Cruz Mountains certified sustainable by the CSWA. Join Jerold O’Brien of
Silver Mountain in working to increase that number!
