Members, I have in the past posted a lot of questions pertaining to my vine issues ( stunting ).. We have all guessed at the issue/ problem...from micro nutrients to boron etc...
Even though I have done soil amendments ...watered, had samples done..could not find the answer...
So, I finally got smart and got Ms. Purdy Foxx to come over and take a look. We went over the history of the vineyard from start to now.... We were scratching our collective heads...one of her last questions was what kind of weed killer was I using for under the vines...."roundup"?I couldn't remember...so I went into the shed and brought it out...
Well needless to say the look on Ms. Purdy's face told me I had screwed up....The weed killer worked great...In fact too great.....this kind of weed killer was one that saturated the ground and went thru the roots to kill systemically ........ Not just topical........
So, in my due diligence ( every year applied ) to kill the weeds I turned into a Vine Serial Killer....
The moral of the story is two fold...first know what you are applying to your vineyard and second get a professional consultant for your vineyard ...instead of using every tom, Dick and Harry .
Attached is a photo of the stuff I used.....got it at Costco...
I guess you live and learn, hope this helps another novice.
Thanks
Jimmi V,
Spider Mountain Vineyards
