VASCM: In-Row Mulching

Hi VASCM Members,
We're looking at ways to improve our practices in our hillside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyard and mulching is one that comes up. This practice doesn't seem to be widely used, although it's easy to find studies that recommend it for weed suppression, moisture retention and micronutrients. Have any of our members tried it? Is the difficulty in applying the mulch unjustified? Did it harbor pests or fungus, or perhaps introduce new weed species?
We plan to start using non-irrigated cover crops between rows and the in-row mulching would be in addition to this.
It would be great to hear about your experiences - thanks.
