VASCM: Harvest

Hi Rachel, et al,
As newbies, we neglected to test all areas of the vineyard and found that there
was a section of our pinot that was riper than we knew. Fortunately, we were
able to mobilize and got the grapes off the vines at just about the right time
(TA, Brix and pH just right!) on Sunday. Probably harvest the remainder this
coming Saturday.
We found the ripe area by the buzzing of wasps and bees that seemed to be
attacking it. Many berries were hollowed out. Do the wasps do this? If so, is
there a non-pesticide strategy to dealing with it?
BTW, anyone want to share a crusher/destemmer rental?

Subject: VASCM: Harvest
Hi all
Wanted to let you know we harvested our first ton yesterday… woo hoo here
we go!!! :) Going to micro-harvest this year as the topography is so
diverse. This harvest came from the sweet spot in the vineyard that I have
nicknamed sunrise ridge. It gets about 2 hours more of direct sunshine on a
clear day than the rest of the vineyard.
Where is everyone else at?
Happy Harvest!!! What a gorgeous vintage.
Rachel
P.S. We haven’t got any solid takers for my friends 2-4 Tons of Chardonnay…
so it’s still available… he’s keeping ½ Ton and is motivated to sell the
rest!
