Technical Session: "Take the Acid Test"
on March 27, 9:00-12:00 at the Villa Ragusa Conference Center in Campbell
Whether or not you are growing or making Pinot Noir this session will be
a valuable one on acidity in winegrapes and wine

**Dr. Roger Boulton*, Professor and Chair of the Enology Department of
Viticulture and Enology Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, U.C.
Davis and co-author of "The Principles and Practices of Winemaking";
*Greg La Follette*, an international vineyard and winery consultant and
currently owner of La Follette Winery.

The Technical Session at this year's Pinot Paradise is about acid,
specifically the acidity of Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir and its
positive influences. The session will delve into the origins of natural
acidity levels in the fruit and wine and how these contribute to the
age-worthy, food-friendly, legendary Pinot Noirs for which the Santa
Cruz Mountains is known.

**Keynote speakers are Dr. Roger Boulton, Professor and Chair of the
Enology Department of Viticulture and Enology Agriculture and
Environmental Sciences, U.C. Davis and co-author of "The Principles and
Practices of Winemaking"; and Greg La Follette, an international
vineyard and winery consultant and currently owner of La Follette Winery.
Dr. Boulton was named among "the 50 most influential people in the US
Wine Industry" in 2000 by Wines and Vines Magazine. Mr. La Follette is
the former winemaker at Flowers Winery, where he developed wide acclaim
as a renowned Pinot Noir producer. He has also worked with winemaster
André Tchelistcheff at Beaulieu Vineyards and was the consulting
designing winemaker for the new U.C. Davis teaching winery. He will
discuss the viticulture of wine and the management of acidity levels in
the vineyard.
The session also includes a panel of four local winemakers who will
share their experiences and offer a tasting of their Santa Cruz
Mountains Pinot Noir. This panel includes: Jeff Emery, Santa Cruz
Mountain Vineyard ; Nathan Kandler, Thomas Fogarty Winery & Vineyards;
Dave Moulton, Burrell School Vineyards & Winery; Jim Schultze, Windy
Oaks Estate Vineyards & Winery; and will be moderated by Nick Guerrero,
Vine Hill Winery.
Pinot Paradise begins on Saturday, March 26 with a self-guided Pathways
tour of the region's wineries, featuring barrel tasting and library
wines. Tickets for/ Pathway to Pinot Paradise /are $25.
On Sunday, the /Grand Cruz Tasting /is from 2:00-5:00 (following the
/Technical Session)/, with 40 Santa Cruz Mountains wineries pouring our
AVA Pinots, with food provided by over a dozen local restaurants. A /VIP
Tour/ precedes the /Grand Cruz Tasting/ from 1:00-2:00. Tickets are
$55.00 for the /Technical Session/; $55 for the /Grand Cruz Tasting
/(and an additional $20 for the VIP Tour); and $140 for all four events.
