VASCM: Next Meeting & Summer BBQ Next Tuesday, Aug. 17 - Fruit (un)Ripeness & Green Flavors, with Susan Ebeler, UC Davis

The next meeting of the VASCM will focus on the relationship of fruit 
ripeness at harvest to resulting flavors in wine, and specifically on 
green flavors.
It will also be our annual summer bbq.

Next meeting: August 17, 2:00pm
Speaker:  Susan Ebeler, Professor & Chemist, Dept. of Enology & 
Viticulture, UC Davis
Where: Redwood Ridge Estate, 21435 Summit Rd. (directions below)

Susan Ebeler will talk about wine flavors relating to fruit ripeness (or 
unripeness) at harvest. And we will be tasting some samples of 'green' 
wine made from underripe fruit picked at different brix levels at last 
year's harvest.  You can see more about Susan Ebeler at

Also, Ron Mosley and Rick Anzalone will provide a Vine Talk about vineyard practices at this time of year.
They will talk about what they are currently seeing in the region and what we might do in the vineyard, if anything, 
given the cool weather and slow season.

The meeting will be followed by our annual do-it-ourself bbq. As usual, 
please bring a bottle of wine to share.

We could use some volunteers at the bbq to help with grilling and 
putting out the food. Please reply if you can be available to help at 
the meeting site.
