Announcing: Our first VASCM meeting of 2009!
Tuesday, January 20 at Alfaro Vineyard in Corralitos (directions below)
2:00pm: Pruning workshop. Learn best pruning practices from our local
vineyard consultants and practice in the vineyard. Bring your pruners
(please sterilize).
3:00pm: Meeting. Update on the spread of the Light Brown Apple Moth in
our region from the CDFA, trapping and latest control plans.
Presentation on the new subregions of the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Come early at 2:00 for an in-vineyard pruning workshop. Please bring
sterilized pruners.
Our meeting will start at 3:00. A representative from the CDFA will
spend a few minutes bringing us up to date on the Light Brown Apple
Moth, which has continued to spread and now, for example, has been found
at the higher elevations around Summit Road (and elsewhere). The CDFA
has new plans for eradication (not involving spraying), and will set
traps around your vineyard upon request.
As well, we will present the new subregions of the Santa Cruz Mountains
and their flavor profiles.
As usual, please bring a bottle of wine to share.
Directions to Alfaro Family Vineyards & Winery:
420 Hames Road, Corralitos: Exit Highway 1 South towards Monterey. Take
the Freedom Blvd Exit. Go approximately 4 miles to Hames Rd. Follow
Hames Rd to the stop sign. Turn right for 1 block onto Pleasant Valley
Rd and jog back left onto Hames Rd. Follow Hames Rd to the top of the
hill; winery entrance is on the left.
Happy New Year! And newsletters will be in the mail shortly.
