Subject: Road Trip?

The combination of a?damn cold snowy day in Cleveland and an article in the Sunday newspaper about a car rental program got me thinking....

Hertz (and maybe others?) has a deal for folks renting cars in Florida (beginning late March) and then driving them north to drop them off as part of their fleet repositioning strategy. If you want to go as small as a Ford Focus, it runs $5?a day (plus taxes etc).? A full size sedan goes for $15/day. Both those are if you can get the car back in 4 days. Somewhat higher, but still pretty low, rates for longer periods up to 14 days.

?

One way air fares from CLE to FL are showing up for less than $100 on Continental and Southwest.? So...

?

Anyone interested in?flying down to FL with some radios and mobile antennas a day or two before the Florida QSO?Party (April 26-27), get a car,?operate FQP ending up somewhere in the very north of FL, and then spending a day+ driving back?north?

?

I've not yet received clearance from Linda for this - if not for difficulty of her taking time off work and the end and beginning of months, we might do a variation of the plan, visiting various friends up the east coast on the way home.

?

Or feel free to take up the idea on your own.? But is seems interesting.

?

Florida guys - if this were to work out, might we get some logistical support?(like a place to install radios, maybe a place to crash on Friday night?

?

Also Florida?guys -?the concept would also work for?Michigan QSO Party on April 19 - drive north, operate, and then fly home.
