Gents!
Interesting post by K8MR.
Perhaps we should consider having CWTs on the free weekend each year.
Or perhaps we should consider having two CWOs every year. Fall and Spring.

Faced with perhaps needing to be out of town for the next several weeks, I
checked to see if there were any contests next weekend (Mar 23-24), for
which it might be worth taking along my KX3. Lo and behold, the WA7BNM
calendar lists only two: a 4 hour Belgium 75 meter contest, and 6 hour
Central
Asia DX contest!
How did this happen? March has five full weekends this year. Every month
with 31 days has two such years out of seven with 5 full weekends, and 30
day months have one. Sorry, February.
OTOH this weekend (March 16-17) has a 48 hour RTTY contest (BARTG); a
significant 24 hour DX contest (Russian); two respectable state QSO parties
(VA
and OK); and the NCJ SSB Sprint. (Plus several regional VHF contests).
Quite a congested calendar!
Most contests schedule themselves for the first, second, or third weekend,
or for the last weekend of the month. For four weekend months, it doesn't
matter. But to take advantage in years with five weekend months, couldn't a
few of these contests schedule themselves for the next-to-last full
weekend of the month?
(Note: next March also has five full weekends.)
Meanwhile, perhaps the word could be passed along to the contest hating
community to have their own contest-free contest on March 23-24.
