I was in need of a compass in a relative hurry for an event this weekend
and decided to take a chance on this one. Amazon offers two models, a
"basic" at $14.60 and an "elite" at $26.50. Both come with one or two
day free shipping if you have Amazon Prime.
Basic - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G8K1WDZ/
Elite - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G66Y1BQ/
I ordered the "elite" model.
The elite model appears to be a very close Chinese knock-off of the
Moscompass model 2. Needle is very fast and reasonably stable. The fit
and finish is ever so slightly lower than that of the Moscow version,
molding on the baseplate isn't quite as smooth but it doesn't distort a
map directly beneath it. Otherwise it looks and feels identical.
It's reversible left-to-right in the same manner, pop the spring out and
flip the capsule over to the other side, then reverse the elastic strap.
It even has the same hole for an optional magnifier.
It's certainly not a premium item but under $30 delivered for a decent
thumb compass is a pretty good deal.
I'll let you know if it survives the competition. Of course the true
test will be how long it will take to develop a bubble.
