[ARDF] ARDF Digest, Vol 57, Issue 1

Please keep in mind the domain ardf.us is a completely
separate issue from yahoo groups. The only yahoo
association is yahoo is who I went through to purchase
the domain. The actual web content can be hosted on
any server. I just need to change a pointer (through
a yahoo control panel) to update a name server which
in turn will resolve www.ardf.us to the "real"
location.
The domain does not provide any communication between
users and event organizers -- with the exception that
like the redirection of ardf.us to a specific web
site, the package also offers a service that will
forward <anything>@ardf.us (or <a specific
string>@ardf.us) to one (and only one) specific real
e-mail address. The only caveat is the one real
e-mail address needs to be a yahoo e-mail account.
That service would not be used to communicate day to
day event data. It would offer an optional enduring
way for someone to ask the person who is currently
catching the redirected e-mail a question.
So ... all the domain really offers is a static, year
after year single URL to get a person to the current
US ARDF web site.
I went ahead and renewed the domain. Maybe it would
make sense to swing the pointer between a sub page on
Joe's web site during off times and the current
championship web site when one is active.
While on the subject of yahoo groups I find them to
be an effective tool. I manage a dozen or so groups
the largest of which has 3500 members and just under
16,000 messages in the archives. I have found no
increase in spam on my personal account and group
management takes VERY little time. My configurations
insure virtually no spam on the lists themselves.
Delivery methods include daily summary, per message,
or no message (web access only). Format can be forced
to text or HTML. The archive search tool does leave a
little to be desired though. My 2 cents worth.
