This is somewhat off-topic, but I thought it sounded fun:
http://wavehunt.redbrick.dcu.ie/
On that page it says:
Individuals and teams of two people will have an hour to locate a
hidden, moving wireless access point. Entrants will require a
laptop/PDA and suitable wireless network detection software.
and (darn!):
External antennas: Unfortunately, these are forbidden. This is to keep
the barrier to entry low. The use of high-gain directional or
omnidirectional antennas would be unfair and restrict entry to just a
couple of people lucky enough to have access to them.
What they need is an "unlimited" category!
(I saw this on slashdot:
http://slashdot.org/articles/05/03/01/1523243.shtml?tid=193 , and one
of the comments even includes Joe's homingin.com site. (If you read
the comments, sort at 3 or higher (I use 4 or 5 usually). Most of the
lower scored comments are worthless.))
