The next southern California on-foot transmitter hunt will be Saturday,
August 14 at Bonelli Regional Park. This will be a special sendoff event for medal
winners of the USA ARDF Championships, who will travel to Czech Republic in
September for the World ARDF Championships. There will be an expert
radio-orienteering course for them (and anyone else who wants to try it), plus a set of
fox transmitters just for beginners, too. Experts will be on hand to teach
you the basic techniques of on-foot direction-finding.

Because temperatures will probably soar during the day, the hunts will start
and end earlier than usual. Practice transmitters will go on the air around
8:30 AM and the main multiple-fox hunts will begin soon thereafter. You may
start the courses at any time before 11:00 AM. There are plenty of picnic tables
and barbecues, so you can bring your lunch.

The courses are open to anyone of any age. There is no charge for
participation. A ham radio license and/or knowledge of radio equipment are not required.

Bonelli Regional Park is near Raging Waters, Brackett Field, and Puddingstone
Reservoir. From the 57/210 freeways, take the Via Verde exit and go east
through the entrance to the park. There is a $8 per vehicle entry fee, so
carpool if you can. Go approximately 1/4 mile beyond the entrance and turn left
into the parking lot for the bike rental stand. Look for the orange-and-white
orienteering flag directing you to the starting site.

Ham radio talk-in is on 146.970 MHz simplex. A map to the site is at
www.homingin.com

A limited amount of radio direction finding gear will be available for loan.
If you have receivers, scanners, directional antennas, attenuators, or other
equipment suitable for on-foot RDF, be sure to bring it. Make sure all
batteries are fresh.

Come on out and try international-style foxhunting!
