I'm pleased to announce that Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club (SBARC) has
been selected to host the fourth annual USA ARDF Championships in June 2004.
SBARC is collaborating with the Los Angeles Orienteering Club (LAOC) for
preparation of maps and organization of the start/finish areas of the competitions.

Tentative schedule:

Wednesday, June 16 - Arrival day
Thursday, June 17 - Practice/tuneup on 80m and 2m, start-order drawing
Friday, June 18 - 2m competition
Saturday, June 19 - 80m competition, Awards ceremony
Sunday, June 20 - Departure day

The competitive courses are open to anyone of any age from any country, with
or without an Amateur Radio license. Medals will be awarded in five age
categories for males and four for females, in accordance with rules of the
International Amateur Radio Union.

The USA Championships will occur just in time for final selection of ARDF
Team USA 2004 members, who will travel to Brno in the Czech Republic for the 12th
ARDF World Championships from September 7 through 12. Team positions will be
filled based on performances in the 2004 events in California and the 2003
events in Ohio.

General Chair for the 2004 USA Championships is Marvin Johnston KE6HTS, one
of North America's ARDF pioneers. A member of USA's first team to the ARDF
World Championships (Hungary, 1998), he has been on the team ever since, making
trips to China in 2000 and Slovakia in 2002. He won medals at the last two
USA ARDF Championships.

Watch this list for announcements from KE6HTS as the time gets closer. The
official Web site of the 2004 Championships is now being prepared. It will
announce the location of event headquarters plus rules and technical details,
including competition frequencies. Registration and lodging information will
also be provided.
