Hello all,
Question,, How many would be interested in an ARDF event that is more
than just the usual event?
We already hold an "O" type of event, but more extreme, similar to the
ECO-Challenge, Just a LOT shorter and easier. It's called the Driftless
Zone Adventure Race.
An Adventure Race is very similar to a "O" type of meet, and hence also
similar to an ARDF event.
Many of the checkpoints are already manned so can easily be radio
equipped similar to a fox hunt type of setup. All we would have to do is
add some additional un-manned units at the un-manned checkpoints. So if
there was enough interest in doing an ARDF Adventure Race, it wouldn't
take a whole lot to add the additional transmitters to the existing
course I already have set up for this year.
Below is a somewhat description of Adventure Racing.
Is there out there any interest in this? who's interested? Just
wondering if I should bother add this to our already existing race.

WHAT IS ADVENTURE RACING?
The sport of Adventure Racing is sweeping the
nation at a phenomenal rate.
The new challenges presented to adventure
racers have caused the sport to
grow exponentially. Adventure Racing is one
of the few sports where just
completing a race is often considered a
victory, challenging both the mind and
the body. Another driving factor in Adventure
racing is the emphasis that is
placed on teamwork, rather than individual
achievement.
Adventure races can vary anywhere
from 4-6 person teams to the 2 man adventure
sprints. The disciplines can
also vary from race to race. Adventure racing
can include shredding through
tight single track on a mountain bike or
orienteering and hiking through a
dense forest. Adventure racers may find
themselves ripping down rapids in a
canoe and then rappelling off a 100 ft. rock
face. The races can range from a
few hours to several days and often cover 100
miles or more! The goal of the
competition is to be the first team to get
all members across the finish line
together. Each team must use strategy to
determine the best route,
equipment, food, and pace to win. Adventure
racing involves any combination
of the following sports in succession:
Trekking or Trial Running
Mountain/Road biking
Kayaking or Canoeing
White water rafting
Swimming
Rappelling or Fixed Ropes
Navigation and Orienteering
Other mystery Events?!?!?!?!
Since its introduction to North America in
1995, adventure racing has been
growing in participation and popularity at an
amazing rate. The annual average
growth rate has been an astounding 275%. It
has been called the "next big
thing" in the sporting industry. It is
filling the pages of outdoor/fitness
magazines, and is seen worldwide on major
outdoor and sports networks. The
sport has become so popular, that in recent
years Outdoor Life
Network (OLN) has aired many races, including
a 13 part series dedicated to
the sport. And this year one of the major BIG
races will be on prime time CBS!
