I am not sure how to respond to all that I have been reading but here goes.
This was my first time at ARDF as a competitor. I finished 4th in the 2M,
M50 class and found my 4 xmitters in the 80 M, M50 class but went overtime.
Didn't win any medals but gained a lot of experience. My short falls are
many, mainly my poor physical condition (too much extra weight and quad
by-pass surgery in March this year) and my orienteering skills are suspect.
Yet I was somewhat pleased to see how well I did against the competition. My
new goals are to loose weight,(I have already started) continue my walk/jog
program and start attending as many orienteering events as I can. I am a
long time foxhunter and I am comfortable with my DF'ing skills.
I have been having the outrageous thought that in a year from now, I might
give some of the M50's a "run for their money" as they say, if I work hard
enough. So are we saying now, that next years outcome will have no bearing
on who goes to the Czech Republic? I will probably get my tail waxed anyway,
but to not have a chance? I know some others that did not do so well their
first time out and are now top ardfer's. In any case, I still am hoping and
planning to go to California next year.

Well, the m50 people *I* am aware of who are interested in going to the
Czech Republic are Jay Hennigan, Dick Arnett, Bob Frey, Dale Hunt,
myself, and now you :). I haven't followed the other classes. My
suspicion is that the US Championships next year will also have a big
influence on who makes the US Team. As we keep getting more people
interested in ARDF, I can only see the competition increasing to make
the US Team ... and that is a good thing!

Sam,

I am sure there is a process and that it will be announced when its time =
to
start the selection process.

In my case I am interested in world and if given the opportunity would =
go,
but due to vacation time issues I can not attend a national and world
championship within the same year. I will have to make a decision on =
which
way to go when the process is announced to the group.

By the way I have not yet got a response from HQ on the radio O =
transmitter
question.

Also a interesting tidbit. Our group has two new sites that we are
developing for ARDF use with the local government. It turns out that the =
one
of the sites was a fox farm in the 1920's and went out of business in =
the
1930's when the depression started. The Fox barns are still standing on =
the
site! How appropriate for an activity that is sometimes called fox =
hunting.

Do we have a documented selection process? The more people we get the
more we need to have one. Nothing gets people more upset than a mystery
process... I wasn't aware that we had so much competition for slots.
Next year I'm eligible for M50 :-) But it's a real long shot that I
would leave the US.
